Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Ronde Barber says Bucs will pick LSU CB Morris Claiborne with fifth overall pick - NFL News
The drafts are just a few days away and the media cannot get enough of predicting which talented youngster will be picked up by what franchise.
The top two prospects are done and dusted though with no doubt that quarterbacks, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III will be picked up by the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins.
However, there is still uncertainty how the rest of the draft will play out.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback, Ronde Barber on Friday shed some light on what his team will do with its fifth pick in the first round.
The Buccaneers have been linked with running back, Trent Richardson who has been highly praised by new Bucs head coach, Greg Schiano.
However, Barber said that his franchise will go for highly rated cornerback, Morris Claiborne from Louisiana State University.
Claiborne is considered the best prospect at his position in this year’s drafts and would help shore up what was one of the league’s poorest defences last season.
Even though Barber has seen none of the stellar performances Claiborne delivered in his last college season, the veteran cornerback was impressed with the youngster.
“I don’t know. I haven’t watched any film of him. I don’t know how he plays or anything. He was actually in our [secondary] room. They did those little unofficial [predraft] visits or whatever. He’s a good kid. He looks good. He looks the part. Everybody’s
high on him.”
The Buccaneers had brought in another cornerback in free-agency with Eric Wright joining the roster. Barber though does not seem too concerned with the competition.
“When I was deciding to come back, I had plenty of meetings with Mark [Dominik], and phone conversations with Mark, they told me they were bringing a guy in [cornerback Eric Wright]. I was like, ‘That’s good. We need it.’”
It is still too early to count out Richardson from arriving at the Bucs and nothing confirmed will be known until April 26th when the first round drafts take place.
The Buccaneers are preparing for the new season and had a strong free agency as they brought in multiple signings to shore up the roster.
They ended last season a poor 4-12.
This year they are looking ahead to pushing for the playoffs.
