Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik 'ready for free agency' - NFL News
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a complete rebuilding phase as they look to take full advantage of the upcoming free agency to return the Buccaneers back among the elite of the National Football League (NFL).
General manager, Mark Dominik, on Tuesday, February 14th, 2012, said in a statement that the franchise has rolled over every available resource into making a big splash during the free agency as it continues preparations for the new season.
"We'll be more active in free agency that we were last year, we purposely rolled every penny we could into this year's cap. Clubs didn't have to do that, but we wanted to. We have plans."
Tampa Bay has a huge gap in their salary cap available to get players when free agency begins in March with estimations putting the number at around $ 60.5 million.
The general manager added further that the franchise is fully prepared for free agency.
"We'll be involved in free agency. To what capacity, it depends on what the list looks like. We're prepared, and that's the most important thing."
The Buccaneers have recently hired a new head coach, Greg Schiano, after sacking Raheem Morris from the top job after what was a very poor 2011-12 season.
Schiano, however, is having trouble in completing his coaching staff as other franchises are consistently refusing the Bucs permission to interview their assistant coaches.
The general manager though does not believe that it is anything to be worried about.
"That's the National Football League," Dominik said. "A lot of clubs have those policies in place. That happens everywhere.”
The Bucs were refused permission by the Green Bay Packers to interview tight-ends’ coach, Ben McAdoo, for the role of offensive coordinator and Schiano had to settle for New York Giants’ quarterbacks coach, Mike Sullivan.
Tampa Bay went 4-12 in the 2011-12 season under previous head coach, Raheem Morris, who was fired from the job after the franchise lost all of its final 10 games.
The poor performances led to increasing fan disillusionment and Morris’ time at the franchise came to an ignominious end.
With Schiano now in charge, Buccaneers' fans will be hoping that the team can perform better.
