Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman just wants to help team win, does not mind focus on running game
Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season had one of the worst offences in the league as they continuously struggled to score points and coupled with an even poorer defence it was no surprise that the team lost its last 10 games in a row.
Most of their struggles to make plays in offence were due to individual mistakes by players such as quarterback, Josh Freeman and running back, LeGarrette Blount.
Freeman was especially culpable as his production regressed considerably last season as the quarterback failed to build on his good performances in 2010-11.
The quarterback threw 22 interceptions last season while scoring just 16 touchdowns to end what was an especially poor individual season.
Now training under new head coach, Greg Schiano, Freeman is looking to make an impact in the new season and is not too worried that the coach is looking to move towards a more run based offence.
Speaking to the Tampa Bay Tribune on Sunday, the quarterback said that he just wants to help the team win.
"It's about winning with me,"
Adding further he said.
"If I go out and stink it up and we win, I'd be a lot happier than if I go out and throw for monster numbers and we lose... Coach Schiano obviously loves the running game. I love the running game.”
Freeman had a poor season in 2011-12 although his performance did not receive as much attention since the defence was even poorer last year.
The quarterback passed for just 3,592 yards, completing 62.8% of his passes while throwing for 16 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.
Freeman also talked about some of the new Buccaneers draft picks and seemed impressed by what he had seen in training.
"Doug Martin and Michael Smith, those guys are so talented. You want to get the ball in their hands, get it to them in space and let them make some moves and make something happen... Obviously LeGarrette (Blount) is having good (practices). And one guy, Mossis
Madu, that guy is shredding it right now.”
Hopefully the quarterback will make good use of his limited pass plays next year and help the Buccaneers to make big scoring plays as they look to mount a challenge for the playoffs.
