Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB LeGarrette Blount does not mind bounties - NFL News
The revelation that New Orleans Saints were running a bounty programme which paid defensive line players to injure their opponents brought outrage from players, fans and analysts but there is one player who feels that having a bounty placed on you is great.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeGarrette Blount in an interview with Yahoo! Sports said that he wouldn’t mind having a bounty placed on him.
"I wouldn’t be mad about it,"
Adding further he said,
"It is nice to know someone cares enough about you to put a hit out on you …”
It seems that Blount would not mind seeing Saints players rushing towards him trying to hit his head or hitting his knees to knock him out of the game.
The rookie who joined the Buccaneers in 2010 also went on to add that many teams placed bounties and it was just the Saints who have got caught.
“I’m pretty sure there are a lot more teams that have done it, but unfortunately they are the ones that got caught. I don’t have a problem with it; it is what it is.”
He also said that he didn’t think that as a player he was important enough to get the Saints to put a bounty on him.
“I don’t know if they had a bounty out on me or not. I don’t know if I’m that big or important enough as a player. Since I’ve been in the league it hasn’t affected me any."
The Saints were found guilty of paying around $ 1,000 to 1,500 in bounties to players for knocking out targeted opponents.
The franchise was punished severely by the National Football League after investigations proved that the programme existed and had run for three years.
New Orleans was fined $ 500,000 plus had their second round draft picks removed for two seasons. Head coach Sean Payton, general manager, Mickey Loomis and assistant coach, Joe Vitt were suspended for a year, eight games and six games respectively.
Blount regressed in 2011-12 as the Buccaneers lost their last ten games consecutively during the regular season.
The running back rushed for 781-yards and scored five touchdowns this season and his regular fumbles of the ball cost the Buccaneers crucial points.
No wonder he was not targeted by the Saints for bounties this year.
