Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Williams grateful for help from Vincent Jackson in training
Having a veteran player in the roster is one of the best ways a franchise can help its young players to mature and learn the tricks of the trade during practice sessions as well as helping them keep their concentration during game-days.
That was one of the things Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, Mike Williams, missed during last season as his production declined substantially while the Bucs went on to lose all of their final 10 games of the season.
Williams had a great start to life at the Buccaneers who he joined as a fourth round draft pick in 2010.
The youngster made 65 receptions in 2010 for a gain of 964-yards while also scoring 11 touchdowns and it seemed that the Bucs had took out a gem from the draft.
However, that productivity and form deserted him in the next season as he gained just 771 yards from the same number of receptions while scoring a paltry three touchdowns.
Struggling for form and support the youngster had no one to help him out with his plays.
This year though Williams has finally found the mentor he needed last year. The Buccaneers drafted in wide receiver and two-time Pro-Bowler, Vincent Jackson in the offseason from the San Diego Chargers on a mega $ 55.555 million deal.
Speaking to the Tampa Tribune on Saturday, Williams praised Jackson for helping the team’s receiving corps out with his experience.
"He's been showing us a lot of what he's seen throughout his long career and his 1,000-yard seasons and his Pro Bowl seasons.''
Jackson has been delivering brilliant statistics throughout his seven years in the National Football League (NFL) and last season made 60 receptions for a gain of 1,106 yards for the Chargers while also scoring nine touchdowns.
Williams continued.
"He's been letting us know what we're going to see (from opposing defenses), and he's basically been telling me to just keep working on my game. You can't ever think you've mastered it.”
Jackson’s help will be great for the Bucs receiving corps especially Williams as they look to rebound from their disastrous 2011-12 campaign under the guidance of first time head coach, Greg Schiano.
