Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat Oakland Raiders 42-32 in Week 9 – NFL Recap
Tampa Bay Buccaneers got their running game going as they beat Oakland Raiders 42-32 in Week 9 game on Sunday, November 04, 2012 at O.co Coliseum, Oakland, California.
Buccaneers rookie running back Doug Martin gave a breakout performance as he ran a franchise record 251 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns.
The 31st overall pick of this year’s draft also scored the winning points for Buccaneers. The running back has been in superb form as he was named the offensive rookie of the month in October.
Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano was happy to see the rookie carrying the good run of form. According to The Associated Press, Schiano said:
"That was a great, great performance, after having a big outing in Minnesota on national TV and winning some awards you wonder how the young guys is going to handle the success. This test he stepped up and met the challenge for sure."
Raiders marked a stout comeback in the final quarter of the game as they reduced 18-point deficit to just three points with less than four minutes remaining in the clock.
Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer was phenomenal throughout the game. He completed 39 of 61 for 414 passing yards and scored four touchdowns.
However, Palmer threw three interceptions at crucial moments of the game. This included the interception in the final quarter that led to Buccaneers scoring the game-winning touchdown. Talking after the game, Palmer said:
"Mistakes like that you can't overcome and you can't make and me being the quarterback you can't do that, I can't throw that ball. You just need to take a sack sometimes if things are off of the same page and come back the next play."
The game got to a slow start as Raiders scored the only points in the first quarter with a field goal.
Buccaneers opened their scoring sheet in the second quarter with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Josh Freeman.
Raiders then took the lead with a 25-yard pass from Palmer to wide receiver Rod Streater as the first half finished 10-7.
Buccaneers’ offence picked up the gas in the third quarter and scored three touchdowns to lead by 28-10. Martin ran twice to reach the end zone while Palmer scored the third touchdown.
Raiders reached the end zone after a dismal third quarter. Palmer’s four-yard pass for touchdown took the score to 17-28.
After that, Martin ran 70 yards to reach the end zone as Buccaneers stretched their lead to 35-17.
It was looking as if Raiders will make a stunning comeback as Palmer scored another two touchdowns to reduce the Buccaneers lead to 32-35.
However, Martin’s one-yard run with less than two minutes remaining in the game sealed the victory for Buccaneers.
It was their second consecutive victory on road. The main reason behind it was superb output from the offensive team. For the fourth game in a row, Buccaneers managed to score at least 28 points which is a franchise record.
