Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano denies rumours that he is willing to trade CB Aqib Talib
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback, Aqib Talib is one of the most talented players in the league, however, his off the field problems with the law has given the Buccaneers a lot of trouble over the four years he has spent with the franchise.
Talib is currently waiting to stand trial in Texas over allegations of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in June and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
However, his legal team believes that Talib has a good chance of clearing his name with the authorities and will be available to Tampa Bay for the new season.
In an earlier report it was rumoured that new Buccaneers head coach, Greg Schiano is preparing to move the 26-year-old but on Wednesday Schiano spoke to the
Tampa Bay Times and rejected the idea that the franchise is looking to trade the troubled cornerback.
The coach told the newspaper.
"All I can tell you is that there is absolutely zero thinking on our part as far as wanting to do that. I want him to be a Buc. I understand there's been issues before I arrived. I'm not naive to that. And I understand that some of those are a heck of a
lot bigger than playing football. But I am really hopeful that that clears itself up.”
He also said that the 24/7 news cycle gives rise to such rumours and he is only commenting on this because of circumstances.
"Only because there's some extenuating circumstance, I'm going to comment. Usually I won't. In this day and age, with all the blogs and everything, if I commented on every speculation, it would be an everyday task.”
Schiano also said that the cornerback has done everything he asked since he arrived at the franchise and that he does not judge players over their past demeanours.
He ended his statement by once again adding that there is no truth to the rumours of Talib being let go by the franchise and he will remain a Bucs player.
Tampa Bay will in anyway find it hard to trade the cornerback to another franchise since no other team would be willing to risk taking the player with the ongoing court case against him.
