Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano extremely pleased with draft pick Mark Barron - NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach, Greg Schiano wanted players in the draft who in his words were “Buccaneer Men”. The head coach might have gotten his wish as Tampa Bay after a surprising draft day picked up Alabama University safety, Mark Barron with the seventh
overall pick.
The Buccaneers were before the draft heavily linked with cornerback, Morris Claiborne while Schiano had also praised the qualities of running back, Trent Richardson and wide receiver, Justin Blackmon.
However, the franchise surprisingly traded with Jacksonville Jaguars to move down to number seven overall.
Jacksonville picked up Blackmon with their pick and that is when the draft craziness really started.
The Dallas Cowboys traded with the St. Louis Rams to move up into sixth and took away Morris Claiborne in a move that shocked everyone following the draft.
Tampa Bay themselves were taken aback by the move and took up nine of their ten minutes available to finally make their pick as they settled to pick Barron who became the first safety in Tampa Bay’s history to be drafted in the first round.
Schiano was extremely pleased with the newest addition to his roster and talking to media after the draft said that Barron was the exact right fit for the team.
"The first film I watched, I ran to (general manager Mark Dominik). We watched it together, and I looked at him and said, 'Wow!' So then you go back. That's what you do leading up to the draft. You try to find problems and what isn't right. We just felt
this guy is a fit for the Bucs.”
Adding further he said.
"He's a leader, a physical presence, a football guy, loves it. He's our kind of guy."
The coach also went on to add that he cannot wait to coach his newest signing and said that as soon as the trade went through Barron asked him for the playbook.
"That's the kind of guy he is. He lives this great game. He loves it. He studies it, and I can't wait to coach him."
The Buccaneers have got a player who will become a great addition to the franchise’s secondary and Barron will help Tampa Bay to improve significantly on defence.
