Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano wants QB Josh Freeman to 'start over' - NFL News
If the Tampa Bay Buccaneers want to return back to the playoffs in the new season then they would require quarterback Josh Freeman back to his brilliant best. New head coach Greg Schiano has a plan on how to achieve that.
Speaking to the Tampa Bay Times on Friday, Schiano wants Freeman to forget everything and simply reset his mind.
“What I'm going to do is ask Josh to just kind of take a mind eraser and start over. Sometimes in your career, you just need to hit the reset button, especially after a tough go of it.''
Adding further he said.
"Rather than look back at trying to get back to some old form he had, you just kind of re-set things, It's great to have a guy with the ability he has and the opportunity to hit the reset button at age 24.''
Well that seems workable.
Schiano still has to hire a new quarterbacks coach before the start of the pre-season training camp. However, there is still no news on the potential candidates under observation for the job.
The new Bucs’ head coach had recently hired New York Giants quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan as his offensive coordinator and Schiano wants to see that whoever comes in for the quarterback coaching job sits down with both Freeman and Sullivan to get the
best out of the quarterback.
"We're going to hire a quarterbacks coach but Mike is going to be very, very involved with the quarterback and the quarterbacks coach. In the meeting room it'll be all the quarterbacks, Mike and the quarterbacks coach working together.''
Tampa Bay is undergoing a huge transformation after what was a disastrous 2011-12 campaign. The Buccaneers went 4-12 in the regular season after losing all of their last ten games, leaving the owners no option but to fire previous head coach Raheem Morris
and his entire staff.
Freeman’s poor form also did not help matters as the quarterback threw 22-interceptions this season while passing for just 16-touchdowns.
With a new coaching staff and a brand new vision of the franchise, the Bucs will hope that Freeman will regain his old form to power their team right into the playoffs.
