Tampa Bay Buccaneers hire New York Giants QB coach Mike Sullivan as offensive coordinator - NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers' coach, Greg Schiano is finally making progress to shape his coaching staff with the Bucs announced on Friday the hiring of ex-New York Giants' quarterbacks' coach, Mike Sullivan as the new offensive coordinator.
Schiano had a tough time shaping his coaching staff with franchises refusing the rookie coach permission to interview some of their staff for the role.
The ex-Rutgers' coach missed out on some of his top targets, including Green Bay Packers' tight ends' coach, Ben McAdoo, who was later promoted to the role of quarterbacks' coach by Green Bay.
Schiano has now settled for Sullivan and welcomed him to the franchise, praising his abilities and achievements with the New York Giants.
"We are very fortunate to add someone like Mike Sullivan to lead our offensive coaching staff,”
Adding further Schiano said,
“He is a man of character and a complete football coach, who fits with the kind of football team we are building here. His work with the Giants over the past eight seasons speaks for itself. Mike was an integral part of that team winning two Super Bowls in the last five years and we look forward to him bringing that experience and expertise to our club."
Sullivan had a great season with the Giants in 2011-12, training Giants' quarterback, Eli Manning as he put up statistics of 4,933 regular season passing yards, while throwing for 29 touchdowns.
Manning led the Giants to a second Super Bowl win this year as the Giants beat fierce rivals, New England Patriots by 21-17, in Indianapolis to lift the Lombardi Trophy.
The new offensive coordinator will now have to remake a poor Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offence while coaxing the best out of quarterback Josh Freeman who regressed badly this year.
The Buccaneers went 4-12 in the regular season, losing their last 10 games as they put up some of the worst performances ever seen in the league.
The poor form led Tampa Bay to fire young head coach, Raheem Morris at the end of the season, and hire Greg Schiano.
Schiano is serving for the first time in this role as a National Football League (NFL) head coach but his achievements with Rutgers, transforming a poor team into one of the elites in college football, helped him secure the top job in Tampa Bay.
