Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Mike Sherman for final interview round in search for head coach - NFL News
After Chip Kelly rejected the offer of a head coaching role by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the franchise wasted no time in calling their second choice and ex-Green Bay Packers' coach, Mike Sherman for a second interview.
Sherman was a couple of weeks ago interviewed for the role of head coach as the Buccaneers continued their search for a new head coach.
Kelly however, who according to sources was secretly interviewed by the Bucs became the number one contender for the job and it was reported that contract negotiations were in process but today those dealings were stopped as Kelly decided to remain with
the Oregon Ducks as he had “some unfinished business” left.
With Kelly out of the picture Sherman has now become the first choice and since he is the only candidate for the job called for a second interview seems to be on the verge of getting the role.
The 57-year old is the exact opposite of ex-Bucs coach Raheem Morris who was fired this season.
Morris was the youngest head coach in the National Football League (NFL) and faced a locker room revolt with players not following the instructions from the bench.
However, Sherman is known for his discipline first attitude and will not take kindly to the players’ acts of defiance under his management.
The Buccaneers fired Morris after the team went on ten game losing streak with results getting worse with every week. Morris, who led the Bucs to a 10-6 finish in 2010, could only just watch his team self-destruct every time they took to the field.
The Buccaneers inexplicable losses drew the ire of fans and led to consecutive blackouts of home games as the franchise failed to get the stadium to fill to full capacity in home games leading to the NFL blacking out television broadcasts of the games.
The gap between management and the fans grew insurmountable and in the end the Glazer family which owns the franchise fired Morris and the whole coaching staff to placate the fans.
The owners who vowed to conduct a thorough process to hire a new head coach seem to have finally decided on Sherman who was the first candidate to be interviewed and it is now just a matter of time before the 57-year old is introduced as the new head coach
for the 2012 season.
