Tampa Bay Buccaneers sign undrafted LSU QB Jordan Jefferson - NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, Greg Schiano was highly impressed with the performance of undrafted rookie quarterback, Jordan Jefferson during the rookie minicamp and on Sunday offered the former Louisiana State University (LSU) player a contract.
Jefferson will become the fifth quarterback on the Bucs roster joining the likes of starter, Josh Freeman, backup, Dan Orlovsky, Brett Ratliff and Zach Collaros to compete for the position.
The young quarterback did not receive good reviews during the draft and many analysts did not consider him being good enough to become a National Football League (NFL) quarterback, however, according to the Tampa Bay Times the player is prepared to prove his doubters wrong.
"I just want to prove that I’m a very talented player. I played at LSU for a large (number) of games. I had a very strong winning percentage there. I was the second-most winningest quarterback there. But at the same time, I’m not where I want to be."
Adding further he said.
“I have to learn. That’s what I’ll be doing in my time here. I just want to prove that I can be an NFL quarterback."
He will have plenty of time to prove that at the Buccaneers.
Coach, Schiano also said that he felt that Jefferson has the potential and they are signing him up since he showed consistent improvement every day at rookie minicamp.
"We wanted to gauge his development as a quarterback. I thought he made consistent improvement all weekend. There's a lot of upside there, so I think we would like to have a chance to work with him."
Jefferson had a good record with the LSU Tigers in his final season.
The quarterback played in 10 games, starting five of them as he completed 61 passes out of 100 attempts.
Jefferson passed for 737 yards and threw six touchdown passes.
He has a lot to prove before he can realise his dream of playing for a NFL franchise and the Buccaneers is the ideal destination for him to hone his skill.
The quarterback will not be the only undrafted free agent to be signed by Tampa Bay as coach, Greg Schiano plans to bring in at least 22 to 29 players.
