Tampa Bay Buccaneers to practice with pads for visit to Green Bay Packers – NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers were swatted aside by the Houston Texans in their last game on Sunday losing 37-9 with a poor performance both offensively and defensively. Buccaneers Coach Raheem Morris has his work cut out trying to arrest
his team’s mid season decline ahead of the visit to the most inform team this season the Green Bay Packers.
Morris has taken issue with the Buccaneers lack of physicality in their game against the Texans and is looking to work on this deficiency in practice with two padded training sessions this week. The Buccaneers will concentrate
on basic tackling in their training sessions while trying to improve defensive solidity at the back.
"This week, and for the rest of the season, I can't be concerned about preservation so much and get our physicality better. That's what we need to do," Morris said
"The answer is putting on some pads. ... I have to get as many as I can, based on the rules, to get these guys going. We've got to make plays in pads, both on offense and defense and special teams."
Tackling was a major issue for the Buccaneers in Sunday’s loss to the Texans as they were overrun throughout the match with the Texans making scoring drives of 80 yards twice and 90 yard drive as the Buccaneers defensive tacklers
were over powered by the Texans stronger offense.
"On defense we had an issue with effort on ... the two big plays. That's something that's very uncommon," Morris said. "Some of it was because of injury or whatever the case may be, but you can't make excuses. You've got to go
out there and play as hard as you possibly can at all times."
The Buccaneers can have a maximum of two padded practices each week in compliance with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The training session is unlike the normal sessions that take place during mid season with National
Football League teams concentrating on padded practices earlier in the season.
Tampa Bay have lost three games in a row after Sunday’s loss and scored only nine points during the game with their first touchdown coming in the fourth quarter after any chance of a comeback had long gone.
