Tampa Bay Buccaneers trade TE Kellen Winslow to Seattle Seahawks, sign Dallas Clark - NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, Greg Schiano continues to ring round changes in the franchise’s roster as he prepares his team for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
On Monday, the franchise through a press release revealed that they have traded tight end, Kellen Winslow, to the Seattle Seahawks for an undisclosed draft pick.
Winslow’s removal from Tampa Bay looked likely after he failed to show up for the team’s Organised Team Activities (OTAs).
Money would also have played a role in Schiano’s decision as the eight-year veteran was set to earn $ 4.5 million in the next season making it very hard for the franchise to move him on.
Before his move to the Seahawks it was speculated that Chicago Bears were also interested in signing the 28-year-old.
The tight-end made 75 receptions last year for a gain of 763-yards and scored two touchdowns.
This is not the first time that Schiano has released a veteran Bucs player in the offseason and Winslow’s trade will be a wake-up call to the rest of the roster that the coach will not hesitate to move those players on who he feels will not contribute to
the team.
Winslow’s position will be filled by Dallas Clark who joined the franchise from the Indianapolis Colts.
General Manager, Mark Dominik, praised Clark after he signed a new one-year deal with the franchise.
"Dallas Clark is a consummate pro and proven playmaker. He will be another asset, on and off the field, for our team. In addition to Luke Stocker’s continued improvement in his ability as an every-down tight end, we feel we have talent and depth at the tight
end position.”
Schiano’s arrival has led to big changes at Tampa Bay with the new coach putting discipline ahead of everything in training.
The Glazers hired Schiano out of Rutgers University after a long protracted search for their new head coach after they fired Raheem Morris.
Tampa Bay had ended last season with a poor 4-12 record and lost the final 10 games of the season.
This year the roster is much more improved and fans optimism regarding the upcoming season is high with the franchise expected to make a strong push for the playoffs.
