Tampa Bay Lighting wins 4-3 against the St. Louis Blues after a thrilling match in overtime
The final game of Sunday was hosted by the Tampa Bay Lightning at the St. Pete Times Arena as they were up against the St. Louis Blues. This was the 795th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series which saw both teams come up with a quite
a performance. Tampa Bay Lighting was strong at the start and led but St. Louis Blues managed to level the scores at the end of the second period.
The game saw the momentum shifting every now and then. However, at the end of regulation time the scores were level on 3-3 and the match into overtime where Tampa Bay Lighting scored and won the match 4-3. Steven Stamkos, centre of the Tampa Bay Lightning
was named the star selection of the match for his goal and three assists.
The first period saw St. Louis Blues starting off with loads of confidence and they certainly were on top with the extravagant and smooth passing they displayed. They created several chances for themselves at the start of the match but the lack of awareness
up front resulted in St. Louis Blues still level on scores with Tampa Bay Lightning.
However, as it is the case most of the times, Tampa Bay Lightning was fully supported by the crowd which gave them a lot of confidence and they started to attack. This coupled with the fact that the teams started to combine really well saw the home team
scoring through Steven Stamkos in the 19th minute to get into the lead. As the period neared its end, both teams made a few more goal attempts but they failed to find the back of the net.
As a result, the period ended with Tampa Bay Lightning leading 1-0 going into the break as they made 13 goal attempts while St. Louis Blues made 9 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams battle out hard but the results were seen immediately. St. Louis Blues scored through Patrik Berglund in the very first minute to level the scores. However, Tampa Bay Lightning with their strong offence managed to score once
again through Dominic Moore from a simple tip in shot.
After this, things slowed down for a few minutes. Both teams started to attack once again after the 10th minute and St. Louis Blues scored once again in the 12th minute through David Backes to level the scores once again. Surprisingly,
St. Louis Blues took the lead with another goal in the 14th minute scored by Nikita Nikitin from a powerful strike.
In the very same minute, Tampa Bay Lightning scored to level the scores once again. The goal was scored by Steve Downie. Both teams made a few more goal attempts as the period ended with the scores level on 3-3.
The final period didn’t see much happening with both teams preferring to stay on the defence. There were a few goal attempts made during the course of the period but no goals were scored as the regulation time ended with the scores level.
The match went into overtime where Tampa Bay Lightning scored through Vincent Lecavalier from a superb backhand shot to win the match 4-3 in the end.
