Tampa Bay Lightning's Martin St. Louis Disgruntled over Lockout -NHL Update
When a player having as much experience as Martin St. Louis in the National Hockey League (NHL), seems to be having a tough time dealing with the lockout, than fans should directly assume that things are not going good at all.
St. Louis, a 37-year-old native of Laval, Quebec, Canada, has spent 13 seasons in the league and has seen two lockouts up until now. The first resulted in the entire season being cancelled, while this one is not looking any better from any direction of looking
at it.
When a player nears retirement, there is so much they want to achieve before going out and at his age, Martin St. Louis wants to do it “with a bang”.
"I know I can play a few more years in this league. I don't feel I'm at the end of my rope. But obviously I have to make sure that I keep sharpening my skills, stay sharp with my training. I have to get on the ice somehow," St. Louis said according to TampaBay.com.
St. Louis is an undrafted player and was picked up by the Calgary Flames to make his first appearance in the major league during the 1998-199 regular season. He made his transition to the Tampa Bay Lightning at the turn of the century and has been an integral
part ever since. Last year, St. Louis continued to stay strong and had played in 77 games, notching 74 points (25 goals and 49 assists).
"He's in great shape. I mean, he's not a normal human being," captain Vinny Lecavalier said. "His legs are, like, twice mine, the size of them. He wants to push himself. He doesn't come here just to come here and skate around. When you hit 30, you have to
stay sharp and push yourself. He's doing that."
There is no doubt in the fact that he is still one of the leading players in the industry today, but not having the chance to enjoy the few years that remain, certainly has St. Louis on the edge.
In total, Martin St. Louis has played 931 games and potted 852 points (323 goals, 529 assists).
