Tampa Bay Lightning's Martin St. Louis Frustrated with Lockout -NHL Update
While the lockout situation currently prevailing lockout situation in the National Hockey League (NHL) may be frustrating and preventing the 2012-2013 regular season from going ahead, it certainly has Tampa Bay Lightning’s Martin St. Louis on the edge and
confused about it all.
At the age of 37, it is hard for any player to be thinking that they can wait out a season to continue playing in the next. For him, every game counts at the moment and with the clock ticking till his last game in the league, Martin St. Louis is not wanting
to waste a moment.
"I need to play," St. Louis said, according to 2.tbo.com. "I'm 37 years old."
When the lockout started, St. Louis did not take it seriously like many other players, thinking that it would be resolved when the time came, but now he sees that it is totally a different situation and very critical at the moment.
"You go through the summer, you always feel that it's going to get resolved, and then you go through it after the lockout starts and you are in Week 3 or 4, it's real," St. Louis added. "There are definitely depressing days where coming to the rink is depressing.
You don't feel like a pro, you are just doing the necessities to try to stay on top as much as you can."
St. Louis is an undrafted player who was picked up by the Calgary Flames back during the 1998-1999 regular season. He played in two seasons with the Flames before permanently shifting to the Tampa Bay lightning in 2000-2001 and has been a part of the Florida
club ever since.
He is definitely one of the best in the league as has 931 games under his belt and 852 points (323 goals, 529 assists) and 266 minutes in the penalty box. Last season was without a doubt another shocker as the veteran potted 74 points, after two seasons
of 90-plus points.
St. Louis is on a four-year contract with Tampa Bay, which is worth $22.5 million, and has three seasons remaining on it before it makes him an unrestricted free agent.
