Tampa Bay Lightning's Steven Stamkos Pondering on Playing in Europe -NHL Lockout Update
Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Tampa Bay Lightning captain, Steven Stamkos, are still some of the few big name players that have yet to go abroad and continue playing but seem to be confused over what should be done in this depression
situation as the National Hockey League (NHL) lockout persists.
The Pittsburgh Penguins superstar squad member recently came out to say that he was seriously considering going abroad and giving playing with another club a shot while the deadlock continues, which has not gotten Steven Stamkos thinking about doing the
same as well.
Stamkos, while discussing his future plans in an interview with a leading sports websites, hinted at maybe taking off in the next couple of days if he is able to work something out with teams overseas. He is still optimistic about saving what part of the
2012-2013 regular season they have remaining, but is now not going to be putting all his hope on that.
"I'd have to agree with Sid(ney Crosby) there," Stamkos told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun on ESPN.com. "That was the rationale early on when I sat down with [agents] Donnie [Meehan] and Mark [Guy]. 'Let's wait this out. Let's be optimistic that we get
something done here and salvage some of the season. So let's stay in shape here, work out and stay informed and go from there.'
One thing that would really force him to take off is if the league decided to cancel the entire regular season, keeping in view the growing tensions between the stakeholders.
"But if the season is in jeopardy, you'd definitely have to look at getting at least one to two months' worth of competitive games in just so you have something to gauge heading into the summer," added Stamkos.
Steven Stamkos is a 22-year-old centre player who was drafted first overall back in round-one of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is definitely one of the best, boasting a 325 games played record with 329 points (179 goals, 150 assists)
and 217 minutes of penalty time.
