Tampa Bay Lightning's coach Guy Boucher talks about his journey with the team: NHL News
One of the most talented and talked about head coaches, Guy Boucher, is currently commanding the hot in-form team of NHL, Tampa Bay Lightning. They have been superb during the pre-season and even better during the play-offs.
"As a player you always want to make the NHL, but as a coach the weird thing is I always focused on where I was and I always enjoyed where I was and I always felt that if I did a good job where I was I'd never need to leave," Boucher said.
He is the youngest coach at the age of 39 to coach a team and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that he had to struggle for this job. Boucher used to play for the McGill University during which he sustained some undisclosed injury that kept him out of the
action for a number of years. He was among some of the most talent men around, but couldn’t pursue his dream of playing. His love for hockey did not lessen and decided to land on the ice as a head coach for the Lightning.
To head coach one of the prestigious teams in the National Hockey League was no easy coming as he had to go through different phases as assistant coach for several teams before he actually became eligible to hold the top most position.
"The dream became true, I think, last year at the end of the American League season," Boucher said. "I started to hear sometimes my name come up and … at that point things started to roll real quick and I ended up in Tampa. It is a dream for anybody
to get to the NHL at any level, whether it's a coach or a player or a part of the organization, so I feel very fortunate."
The Lightning was on the verge of elimination when they managed to make their way back into the series with a superb 8-2 win. They continued to dominate proceedings after that as they won the series against the Penguins.
Moving on into the semi-finals, they thrashed the Washington Capitals who were the top seed in the Eastern Conference in a brilliant clean sweep 4-0 series win. The veteran, 41-year-old goal-keeper, Dwayne Roloson who leads every department in the
goal tending is piling up performances and the newly included Sean Bergenheim is also in top form as he is tied for most goals with seven during this post-season.
Boucher is hopeful that his team would do well and continue to perform the way that they have done in the past few games. Their next game is the Conference Finals. However, if they manage to win, then they will be contesting for the Stanley Cup which
will be a dream come true for the coach.
