Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman says no selloff plan currently, was a possibility once – NHL News
Steve Yzerman, the general manager of the American professional hockey team, Tampa Bay Lightning, has denied that he was planning a selloff of his side, while he also admitted at the same length this being a possibility on his mind at one point.
Yzerman said that they did not want to get rid of their guys despite that at one point they had weighed exercising of the option in case they were made a good offer.
"We're not looking to get rid of guys," he said. "Our feeling was that if we had good offers we would act on it. Getting a second-round pick is very valuable for us. It came together very quickly but it was not something we worked on for a long time."
Lightning went into Thursday, February 16, 2012, game while being ranked at 13th position in the East Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), and the manager while throwing a light on the poor form said there was no possibility of the
selloff now.
He was commenting on the trade of forward, Dominic Moore, to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a second round draft pick, which according to him was a good deal to pass up.
He said:
"We debated. He is a good player, a real leader a good citizen. We just felt like it was a high pick."
Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks have hoped that addition of Moore to their side will strengthen their squad and give them more depth and options through versatility of his skills.
San Jose Sharks’ general manager, Doug Wilson, in a statement said:
"Dominic is an extremely versatile player that has performed in a lot of important playoff games the last two years."
Sharks’ head coach, Todd McLellan, has spoken of similar ambitions and hopes about Moore. He said that one of his assistants had seen him in Minnesota and the player immediately made an impression on him immediately.
He also said that it was versatility in the player’s skills and performance that separates him from others in the same lot, calling his trade a good deal for his team, and benefiting them in the future.
Similar views were expressed by Shark’s centre, Logan Couture, who said that Moore would help their team to a great extent. He said that the player had a great role in helping his side to playoff berth a year earlier, and his grit can make a positive difference
for his side now.
Moore’s record for Lightening this season includes four goals and 15 assists. He also had 48 penalty minutes in a total of 56 games that he has played for his former side, this NHL season.
He finished a year earlier (2010-2011) with his record streak of 18 goals.
