Tampa Bay Lightning Goalie Mathieu Garon healthy and ready to play -NHL Update
Finally some good news for the Tampa Bay Lightning in terms of goaltending as veteran net minder, Mathieu Garon, is reported to be healthy and ready to get back on the ice for his team in the upcoming National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
Prior to the news, Tampa Bay had been worried about having to give rookie goalie, Anders Lindback, a major chunk of the regular season, eventually tiring him out and maybe even fatiguing him out enough to miss the postseason. But now, Tampa Bay can rest
assured of some veteran presence in the net to guide Lindback in time of need.
"They're both going to get a lot of ice time," Lightning coach, Guy Boucher, said, talking to the Tampa Bay Times. "I'm not expecting Lindback to come in here and play 65 games. He played 15 games the past two years, so it's not fair to him. It's not fair
for the expectations."
The biggest issue for Tampa Bay then arose was taking the risk of betting their season on the performance of Lindback, which is yet to be seen in the NHL, other than what they have already seen in him playing in Sweden.
"We know he's going to be good, but how good we don't know," Boucher said of Lindback. "That's why Garon is perfect for him. He'll be able to help him with how to manage things. And we know we can put Garon in net and get good results."
A good sign for Tampa Bay is also that they already have Garon signed for the upcoming season as there is still one-year worth $1.25 million worth on his contract of two years, which he signed back prior to the 2011-2012 NHL regular season.
Garon was drafted as the 44th overall back in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens and is geared up to enter his 12th regular season in the North American major lleague and second with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It will be exciting to see how the situation plays out for the Tampa Bay Lightning and whether their goalies will be able to live up to such high expectations or not.
