Tampa Bay Lightning acquire Goalie Anders Lindback from Nashville Predators -NHL Update
Tampa Bay Lightning had termed the need to acquire a top level goalie after failing to have any depth in front of the net during the regular season. It looks like they are willing to invest in a young goaltender for the upcoming season as Tampa Bay acquired
Anders Lindback from Nashville Predators on Friday, June 15, 2012.
Also part of the trade was forward Kyle Wilson and a seventh-round pick for the upcoming 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft while Tampa Bay sent a second-round and third-round pick for the 2012 and 2013 draft respectively along with goalie Sebastian
Caron.
Lightning General Manager, Steve Yzerman, was the one to make the announcement about the successful trade between the two teams.
"We are very pleased to announce this trade today," Yzerman said. "We believe Anders will join the team and give us a nice lift at the goaltending position as we prepare for the 2012-13 season. He has the potential to develop into the No. 1 goaltender we
covet."
At a mammoth 6-foot-6, Anders Lindback definitely has the potential to become one of the best goalies in the league. At the age of 24, Lindback had played a total of 38 games up until now with the past two seasons being his breakthrough ones.
The Gavle, Sweden native, was picked up as the 207th overall selection during round-seven of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by Nashville Predators, making this the first trade of his career.
For Lindback, getting the opportunity to become a starting goalie has always been something he has dreamt about and now it seems things are finally going his way. He is also excited to play with some of the league’s best that are on the Lightning team.
“It’s going to be great playing on such an offensive team.” Lindback said. “Obviously, having Steven Stamkos, Vinny (Lecavalier) and Marty (St. Louis) on your team is exciting for anyone. It’s the kind of team I want to be a part of.”
Currently, the young goalie maintains a .914 save percentage along with a 2.53 goals-against average. He should be watched next season closely as it just might be the one for him to come out of the box and surprise everyone.
