Tampa Bay Lightning beat Washington Capitals 4-3 at the St. Pete Times Forum on Tuesday to move one step closer to the Western Conference finals.
The game was important for both teams with the Lightning looking to win and come ever so close to the Western Conference finals while the Capitals were looking to recover from the setback of losing two home games early on.
The game started with the Capitals coming up with the early attacks but it was the Lightning who scored in the middle part of the period to get into the lead. There were several chances for the Capitals to score but they could not utilise any. The Capitals
were superb in the second period as they successfully scored two early goals to get into the lead. The Lightning were able to get a goal back but once again the Capitals scored to get back into the lead. The final 20 minutes of play saw the Lightning playing
superbly and scoring two goals to get into the lead and win the game 4-3 in the end. Sean Bergenheim was named the star of the game as he scored the opening goal of the game.
The Capitals were the team that came up with the early shots on goal. There were several scoring chances for them but it was the Lightning who proved to be productive as they scored in the 12th minute through Sean Bergenheim from a well-placed
flick shot.
The period saw the Capitals coming across several scoring chances but still there were no goals as the period ended with the Lightning leading 1-0. The Capitals made 13 shots on goal in the period while the Lightning made 8.
The Capitals were on fire at the start of the period as they scored in the very first minute through Mike Knuble to level the scores. The Capitals continued to pile the pressure and scored once again in the eighth minute through John Carlson from a powerful
strike to get into the lead.
Vincent Lecavalier was on target in the 12th minute through a tip in shot but once again the Capitals scored through captain Alex Ovechkin during power-play to get back into the lead. The period ended with the Capitals making 14 shots on goal
while the Lightning made half of those.
The final 20 minutes of the game were dominated by the Lightning. They restricted the opposition to only five shots on goal in the period and themselves made 15 of those. However, the most important thing was that they scored two goals to win the game.
Both the goals were scored in the sixth minute with the first one scored by Steven Stamkos while the second one was scored by Ryan Malone. In the end, it was the Lightning who won the game 4-3 and got into a 3-0 lead in the series.
