Tampa Bay Lightning defeat the Ottawa Senators 5-2 – NHL Recap

The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Ottawa Senators 5-2 at the St. Pete Times Forum on Tuesday. The Lightning needed the win to get their confidence going and to avenge their last defeat to the Senators. The Senators are out of the National Hockey League play-off
picture, but were looking to play as the spoilers.
Both teams were strong on the attacks and came up with several shots on goal. They created some brilliant plays throughout the period, but no goals were scored as the period ended on level terms. The second period saw the Lightning explode from the start
and scoring two goals to get into a comfortable position. The final period followed on the same roads with the Lightning and the Senators scoring alternate goals. In the end, it was the Lightning who won the game 5-2 comfortably with Martin St. Louis named
the Star of the Game, as he scored two goals for the Lightning.
Both teams made a strong start to the game which saw the making quite a few shots on goal. There were several chances for both teams to score goals, but they were unable to get anything through.
The period ended with the score level on 0-0 with both teams each making 9 goal attempts.
The second period began with the Lightning starting out stronger of the two teams, as they made several shots on goal. The Lightning was able to capitalise and scored in the fourth minute through Martin St. Louis to get into the lead.
The Lighting continued to dominate and fire shots on goal and they successfully scored in the eighth minute to double the lead. The goal was scored by Dominic Moore from a well placed flick-shot. There were a couple of more shots on goal, but none of the
shots found their way into the goal. The period ended with the Lightning leading 2-0 as the Lightning made 9 shots on goal while the Senators made 13 attempts.
The final period of the game saw the Lightning scoring in the sixth minute through Louis once again from a well placed flick-shot. The Senators came up with decent plays as well and scored in the 11th minute through Jason Spezza from a magnificent
tip-in shot.
However, the Lightning scored in the 12th minute through Moore from an aggressive back-hand shot to regain the advantage. The Senators scored their second goal in the 16th minute through Milan Michalek from a decent flick-shot. The
Lightning scored in the final minute to seal the game through Steven Stamkos’s flick-shot.
The period and the game ended with the Lightning winning the game 5-2. The period ended with the Senators making 11 shots on goal while the Lightning made 13 shots.
