Tampa Bay Lightning embarass Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 -NHL Match Update
Marc-Andre Fleury was certainly having a tough time stopping the Tampa Bay shooting even though Pittsburgh faced almost half the amount of shots as compared to veteran, Dwayne Roloson, but the Lightning did not hold back in embarrassing the Penguins, 4-1, Thursday night, November 17, 2011, at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida, United States.
Fleury only faced 17 shots in total during the 60 minute contest while Roloson had to take into account 34 attempts, but the former fell short on a number of attempts while the home goalie had a near shutout by blocking 33 of 34.
"There's no way you can beat that team if the goaltender is not at his best," Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher said. "They've got everything, basically. We've got to play almost perfect defensively."
In addition, Boucher added that the only basic reason to why they won the match was because of their goalie being at his best.
"Roloson was at his best tonight," Guy Boucher added. "If your goalie isn't at his best you will not beat this team, and tonight he was".
Tampa Bay captain, Vincent Lecavalier, got the go ahead goal nearly midway through the opening 20 minutes on a breakaway unassisted for his seventh of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
Brett Connolly added another during their first power play opportunity of the second period with only 21 seconds left until Tyler Kennedy was to make a comeback onto the ice after being penalised for high-sticking with a minor penalty.
Steve Downie extended the lead even further with his second of the season while capitalising on another added man advantage early in the third and final period of regulation while Lecavalier had another breakaway opportunity and potted his second of the night with less than five minutes to go.
Tyler Kennedy saved the Penguins from being shutout with their first, a minute after the Tampa Bay captain added his insurance goal, but with less than four minutes to go, adding three more would require a miracle, which the visitors obviously did not get.
"They've got great players," Downie said. "It's always nice to beat these guys."
