Tampa Bay Lightning knock out Washington Capitals, 5-3 in Game 4: NHL Play-off Recap
The Tampa Bay Lightning knocked-out the Washington Capitals by 5-3 to book their spot in the Conference as they won the series clean and whitewashing the Capitals by 4-0. Game 4 of the semi-final series between the Washington Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning was played at the St. Pete Times Forum this Wednesday.
Both teams made a strong start to the game that saw them piling up shots. There were several chances for both the teams early on to score, but this didn’t happen. After half the period, the Lightning scored to get into the lead with the Capitals scoring a late goal to level the scores once again. The Lightning were on top at the start of the second period and scored two goals to get into the lead. The Capitals managed to score a goal as well, but were trailing at the end of the period by 3-2. The final period was almost identical with the Lightning scoring two goals while the Capitals scored just a solo. In the end, the Lightning won the game 5-3 and qualified for the Conference Finals.  
Sean Bergenheim was named the star of the game as he scored two goals.
The Lightning was the first to make shots on goal and with some brilliant plays they got past the opposing defence on several occasions. The Lightning came across a power-play in the middle part of the period that resulted in them scoring in the 13th minute through Ryan Malone from a tip in shot to get into the lead.
The Capitals also pushed in their surge to score and finally scored in the 19th minute during power-play to level the scores. The goal was scored by Marco Sturm from a tip in shot. The period ended with the scores level as the Capitals made 12 shots on goal while the Lightning made 11 shots on goal.
The Lightning started off better of the two teams in the second period and didn’t take too long to net a goal. They bagged a goal in the fifth minute through Sean Bergenheim. He scored his second goal in the 13th minute to put the Lightning in a comfortable position.
Though the Capitals scored through John Erskine in the next minute, but it was the Lightning who led 3-2 as the period came to an end. The Lightning made 17 shots on goal while the Capitals managed to pile up 10 shots on goal.
The Lightning were the stronger of the two teams as the final period started and they scored two goals in the sixth and 17th minutes through Marc-Andre Bergeron and Martin St. Louis respectively. The Capitals was able to score only one goal in the 18th minute through John Carlson, but it was the Lightning who won the game 5-3 to clean sweep the series and qualify for the Conference Finals.
