Tampa Bay Lightning record 11th straight win against Atlanta Thrashers
The 726th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played at the St. Pete Times as the home team; Tampa Bay Lightning was up against the Atlanta Thrashers. The match took place this Sunday with both teams playing the 50th
game of the season respectively.
The match saw both teams come out very strong in the first period but both the second and the final period was totally dominated by the Tampa Bay Lightning as they won the match 7-1 in the end. Simon Gagne was named the star selection of the match for his
2 goals.
The home team started off as stronger of the two teams attacking as soon as the period started. However, with the passage of time, it was Atlanta Thrashers who also started to come across scoring chances. The early part of the period saw both teams coming
up with brilliant passing which enabled them to get past the opposing defence and in scoring chances.
Both teams made attack after attack but unfortunately no goals were scored. The period ended goalless with the scores deadlocked on 0-0 with Tampa Bay Lightning making 13 goal attempts while Atlanta Thrashers made 13 goal attempts too.
The second period started on a high for the Tampa Bay Lightning as they scored in the very first minute through Nate Thompson from a decent strike to get into the lead. After the restart, Atlanta Thrashers fired a shot after which Tampa Bay Lighting constructed
an attack and successfully scored to double their lead.
The goal was scored by Dana Tyrell from a superb quick fired shot in the 2nd minute. Tampa Bay Lighting continued to dominate the proceedings and in doing so scored through Steven Stamkos once again in the 6th minute. After the goal,
Tampa Bay Lightning took the foot off the gas but a defensive lapse in the 11th minute saw them scoring through Martin St. Louis once again.
Things calmed down and the Atlanta Thrashers came up with a few attacks as well. However, Tampa Bay Lightning got stronger as the period neared its end and scored through Simon Gagne in the 18th minute to complete the dominating performance of
the period.
The period ended with Tampa Bay Lightning leading 5-0 going in the break as they made 16 goal attempts in the period while Atlanta Thrashers made 4 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw both teams making a slow start to the match. However, the game caught pace with the passage of time and with the strong offence it was Tampa Bay Lightning who scored once again.
The goal was scored by Pavel Kubina in the 6th minute from a brilliant long range shot. A few minutes later, Tampa Bay Lightning scored their final goal of the match scored by Simon Gagne from a decent strike.
Though Atlanta Thrashers scored through Rich Peverley in the 16th minute but the goal was just a consolation goal as Tampa Bay Lightning won the match 7-1 in the end. During the final period, Atlanta Thrashers made 5 goal attempts while Tampa
Bay Lightning made 9 goal attempts.
