Tampa Bay Lightning snap Phoenix Coyotes' eight consecutive win streak by winning 8-3

Another of the inter-conference game of Wednesday was the Tampa Bay Lightning played host to the Phoenix Coyotes at the St. Pete Times Arena. The game was very important as the Lightning were looking to recover their loss which the Coyotes were looking for
their ninth consecutive win.
However, on paper the Coyotes may have been favourites to notch up the win but things turned out to be very different.
Lightning was on fire right from the start and bagged five goals in the opening period. Both teams continued the game strong with a decent offence and score three goals apiece during the next two periods.
However, it was the Lightning who came up with a comfortable 8-3 win in the end. Teddy Purcell, winger of the Lightning was named the star of the game as he scored a hat-trick during the game.
The Lightning was on the attack right from the start. They knew that it was important to get ahead if they wanted to win.
This is exactly what they did, scoring in the second minute through Teddy Purcell from a decent strike to get into the lead.
The strong offence saw the home team scoring once again in the fourth minute through Martin St. Louis to double their lead.
The Lightning was very strong offence and scored three more goals during the period and amazing all three goals were scored during power plays. The first of these was scored by Martin St. Louis in the 8th minute through a brilliant backhand shot.
The next was scored by Steven Stamkos in the 15th minute from a decent strike. Vincent Lecavalier scored the final goal of the period to extend the Lightning’s lead to five goals!
The period saw the Lightning totally dominating the period with the Coyotes coming up with a few shots. The period saw the Lightning leading 5-0 in the end as they made 19 goal attempts while the Coyotes made 6 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Lightning taking control once again. Teddy Purcell was on top of his game as he scored twice in the third and ninth minutes to take t he score to 7-0.
The Coyotes were able to respond with some brilliant attacks but failed to find the back of the net.
Both teams came up with quite a few shots that saw the Coyotes opening their account in the 13th minute with Martin Hanzal scoring.
There were no further goals in the period as the Lightning led 7-1 at the end of the period with both teams making 12 goal attempts each during the period.
The game was very productive in terms of goals and this was the case in the final period despite the period being the lowest in terms of goal attempts.
The Lightning scored through Adam Hall from a decent strike to take the score to 8-1. After which they weren’t as eager to score.
The defence relaxed which resulted in the Coyotes scoring a couple of goals. They scored two goals in the 10th and 11th minute through Kyle Turris and David Schlemko but this no more than consolation as the Lightning won the game 8-3.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Lightning making 8 goal attempts while the Coyotes made 9 goal attempts during the period.
