Tampa Bay Lightning take second win in back-to-back meetings with Buffalo Sabres 4-3-NHL Match Update
Tampa Bay not only snapped Buffalo’s three game winning streak in their first meeting on Saturday by shutting them out, 3-0, but also extended their own to three in a row by taking them down, 4-3, again on Tuesday night, October 25, at the sold-out First
Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York, United States.
Mathieu Garon remained hot in the net for Tampa Bay Lightning even though the visiting team was outshot 39-23, but still managed to block 36 after falling short on three.
"He's definitely a great goalie", Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier said of Garon. "He's making the big saves and it's been tough to score on him lately. He's really good to begin with, but now he's getting his confidence back so that makes him even tougher
to beat. Between him and Roloson, that's a pretty good duo".
Thomas Vanek and Thomas Vanek scored two straight in the opening two minutes of the first period, giving Buffalo a commanding lead early on.
Tampa Bay did not remain behind for long as Vincent Lecavalier and Nate Thompson answered back six minutes apart during the final minutes to level the contests before the opening period came to an end.
Steven Stamkos made the tie-breaker 4:42 into the second for his fourth of the season as Tampa Bay managed to kill two penalties after their lead taking goal in order to maintain the advantage.
Ryan Malone made the game-winner for the Tampa Bay Lighting with less than two minutes remaining to play in the final period of regulation, which was termed as crucial seeing Nathan Gerbe’s goal nearly 40 seconds later, which could have forced an uncertain
overtime extension.
"You have to create offense and you have to do it with speed’’, Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said.”I think on Saturday night in their place we were playing too east-west, so tonight we wanted to change that".
Buffalo play their final two games of the month at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, followed by the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
Lightning have one more road game before they return home against the Nashville Predators on Thursday.
