Tampa Bay Lightning thrash Montreal Canadiens 4-1
Steven Stamkos scored two goals and as many assists to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
The Tampa Bay Lightning got off to a very shaky start in the match. Their defence was all over the place and didn’t know what to do against the Canadiens attack. They were punished in the first minute, as the visitors took the lead through Max Pacioretty.
The goal gave Montreal a lot of confidence and they managed to create a number of chances, but were unable to extend their lead. The home team settled into the game towards the end of the period but could not level the scores. The period ended with the Montreal
Canadiens leading 1-0. Montreal made eight goal attempts, while the Tampa Bay Lightning made five goal attempts.
The second period was completely the opposite, as the home team came out with some real attacking intent. There was a lot of strength up front for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The hosts managed to equalise through Martin St. Louis in the third minute. The Lightning
then continued to dominate the game in both attack and defence, and were rewarded with the lead in the 13th minute. Pavel Kubina scored from a tip in shot. Montreal made a few shots at the end of the period, but was unable to score. The period ended with the
Tampa Bay Lightning leading 2-1. During the period Montreal made five goal attempts, while Tampa Bay made eight goal attempts.
Both sides went on the defensive in the final period, and tried to hit each other on the counter-attack, which made for an exciting period. The home side scored twice to seal the game. Both goals were scored by Steven Stamkos in the second and fifth minutes
respectively. The away side couldn’t manage to respond to the two quick goals, as Tampa Bay Lightning won the match 4-1.
