Tampa Bay Lightning win 3-2 against Washington Capitals in overtime to lead series 2-0 – NHL news
Tampa Bay Lightning won 3-2 against Washington Capitals in overtime in the second game of the Western Conference semi-final series played at the Verizon Centre on Sunday.
The Capitals were without any doubt the stronger of the two teams at the start of the game. However, they were unsuccessful in bagging a goal. With the passage of time, the Lightning scored in power-play to get into the lead. The Capitals were the dominating
force in the second period as they came up with quite a few shots on goal. They were able to capitalise from the start as they scored to level the game. The final period saw both teams coming out strong but it were the Lightning who scored to get into the
lead. The Capitals also managed to score in the final few minutes to level the scores once again. The game went into overtime where the Lightning scored to win the game 3-2 in the end. Vincent Lecavalier was named the star of the game as he scored two goals
including the winner.
The Capitals took advantage of the home ice and were on top as they came up with shots on goal every now and then. Their passing and shooting got better with the passage of time but they could not score. The scores remained level as the period neared its
end.
The Lightning came across a power-play in the final stages of the period and they scored through Vincent Lecavalier to get into the lead. The goal was scored through a powerful strike as the period ended with the Lightning leading 1-0. The Lightning made
6 shots on goal while the Capitals made 11.
The Capitals were very strong at the start of the second period and it looked as if they would score a goal. However, this did not happen early on and they had to wait for the 15th minute to score. The goal was scored by Brooks Laich from a decent
backhand shot.
The period witnessed the Capitals continuing to attack but they were unable to score and the period ended with the scores level on 1-1. The period saw the Capitals making 16 shots on goal while the Lightning made only 3 of those.
The final period kicked off with the Lightning scoring in the 8th minute through Martin St. Louis from a well-placed flick shot to get into the lead. The Capitals took some time but scored through Captain Alex Ovechkin to level the scores once
again.
The regulation time ended with the scores level on 2-2 and the game went into overtime. In overtime, Lecavalier scored once again in the 7th minute to win the game 3-2 for the Lightning.
