Tampa Bay Lightning wins 2-1 against Pittsburgh Penguins scoring early in the first period

Tampa Bay Lighting played host to Pittsburgh Penguins at the St. Pete Times Forum in one of Thursday’s game which Lightning won by 2-1. Both teams needed the win as they are fourth and fifth in the Eastern Conference, Lightning at fourth and Penguins at
fifth. Penguins needed the win to close the gap on Flyers in the Division.
Lightning made a decent start to the game which saw it scoring twice at the start of the game to get into a comfortable position. Both teams continued to fire shots on goal but they were unable to find the back of net.
Penguins was the dominating force in the second period and it made quite a few shots on goal but couldn’t back any goals. The period ended goalless despite numerous shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Penguins stronger of the two teams once again and scored the lone goal of the period. The game ended with Lightning winning 2-1 in the end.
Dwayne Roloson, Lightning’s goalie, was named the star of the game as he made 36 saves.
Lightning made a great start to the game which saw it piling up shots every now and then. It took Lightning some time but it managed to score in the fifth minute through Steve Downie to get into the lead from a brilliant backhand shot.
Lightning kept on piling the pressure and scored once again in the 11th minute to double the lead. The goal was scored by Martin St. Louis from a well placed flick shot. The period saw both teams coming up with shots every now and then.
The passing and play-making were both brilliant throughout the period but no goals were scored and the period ended with Lightning leading 2-0. During the course of the period, Lightning made eight shots on goal while Penguins made six shots on goals.
Penguins made quite a few shots on goal at the start of the second period. It dominated possession and constructed goal scoring opportunities but none of the shots found the back of the net. Lightning made shots on goal too but they too couldn’t score as
the period ended with Lightning still leading 2-0.
During the course of the second period Lightning made six shots on goal while Penguins made 14 shots on goal.
The final period began with Penguins starting off strong and it scored in the fifth minute through Michael Rupp’s well placed flick shot to cut the lead to a single goal. 
The period and the game ended with Lightning winning 2-1 in the end.
