Tampa Bay Lightning wins 2-1 against the New York Rangers
The first game of Sunday was hosted by the New York Rangers at the Madison Square Garden as they were up against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Both teams are in the play-off cut a win was important for both of teams as they look to make a strong end to their season.
This was one of games in the National Hockey League which wasn’t as offensively strong as expected.
However, the Lightning was able to come up with quite a performance that saw them winning the game 2-1 in the end.
Martin St. Louis of the Lightning was awarded the player of the game for scoring the opening goal of the game.
The Tampa Bay Lightning made a great start to the game which saw them creating chances for themselves right from the word go.
The away side stunned the home teams with a brilliant goal in the 6th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Martin St. Louis from a powerful long range shot.
The period saw the Rangers shifting gears and with the passage of time they started to created chances for themselves too. Both teams came across some easy scoring chances but they failed to convert any of these into goals.
The period ended with the Lightning leading 1-0 with the Lightning making 7 goal attempts in the period while the Rangers made 4 goal attempts.
The Lightning continued to pile attacks at the start of the second period and there were some excellent pieces of play constructed by both teams. The Rangers also came up with a few shots but they weren’t able to find the back of the net.
However, much to the delight of the fans the Rangers scored in the 10th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Brandon Prust from a brilliant backhand shot.
After the goal, the period was all about the Rangers who came up with shots on goal every now and then.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t score any further goals as the period ended with the scores level on 1-1.
During the course of the period, the Rangers made 9 goal attempts in the period while the Lightning made 5 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play were all set to be very entertaining and exciting as both teams would look to score the winning goal. Both teams made decent start to the game but it was the Lightning who was stronger of the two.
Resultantly, they scored in the third minute to get back into the lead. The goal was scored by Vincent Lecavalier during power play.
There were shots on goal by both teams but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the Lightning winning the game 2-1.
During the period, the Lightning made 7 goal attempts while the Rangers made 10 goal attempts.
