Tampa Bay Lightning wins 4-3 against the Chicago Blackhawks after shootout
Two of the titans in the league were in action this Wednesday as the Tampa Bay Lightning was up against the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks.
Both teams are in the play-off cut and with some decent performances are looking to make their way to the top of the table.
The Lightning was the dominating force in the first period and scored twice with the Hawks also scoring a goal. The Lightning lead 2-1 at the end of the period and both teams scored a goal apiece during the second period.
The Hawks managed to score once again in the final period to level the scores on 3-3 as the regulation time ended.
The game went into overtime where there were no goals. Resultantly, the game went into shootout from where the Lightning emerged as 4-3 winners of the game.
Steven Stamkos of the Lightning was named the star of the game as he scored a goal and made an assist.
After a slow start to the game both teams caught pace and they started to come across scoring chances regularly.
Lightning was the stronger of the two teams and they finally took the lead with a goal in the 12th minute which was scored by Steven Stamkos from a quick fired shot.
Hawks managed to come up with a few shots on goal as well and scored in the 17th minute through Patrick Kane through a quick fired shot to level the scores.
Both teams continued to pile pressure on the opposing team and it was the Lightning who scored once again in the final minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Martin St. Louis from a well placed flick shot.
The period ended with the Lightning leading 2-1 with the Hawks making five shots on goal while the Lightning making 10 goal attempts.
Tough it was the Hawks who were the stronger of the two teams during the course of the period but it was the Lightning who scored the first goal in the period. The goal took just two minutes to be scored and was scored by Teddy Purcell from a brilliant backhand
shot.
The Hawks managed to respond with some intense offensive play which saw them scoring through Patrick Sharp in the 10th minute. The period ended with the Hawks coming up with several more shots on goal.
The Lightning led 3-2 as the period ended with the Lightning making 7 shot on goal while the Hawks made 14 goal attempts.
There were nothing to talk about in the final period but the Hawks scored in the only goal in the period through Jonathan Toews in the third minute to level the scores on 3-3. The period didn’t see any further goals which took the game into overtime.
There were no goals during overtime but it was the Lightning who emerged as winners of game after shootout.
