Tampa Bay Lightning wins 5-1 against Pittsburgh Penguins
The second game of Eastern Conference’s quarter-final was hosted by Pittsburgh Penguins at the Consol Energy Center. They won 5-1 against Tampa Bay Lightning in the end.
The game was important for Tampa, as with a win they could level the series.
The proceedings saw the Lightning making a strong start to the game where there were shots on goal every now and then. Tampa was quick to capitalize and scored early in the period to get into the lead. They didn’t give the opposition any space and scored
two more goals before the period ended to put themselves in the driving seat.
The second period witnessed the Penguins retaliating a little and scoring a goal but the Lightning restored the advantage with another goal. The final period was dominated by the Penguins in terms of shots on goal but it was the Lightning once again, who
scored to seal the game 5-1 in the end.
Eric Brewer was named the star of the game, as he scored a goal and ended the night with two assists.
The Lightning was quick out of the blocks and scored in the third minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Brewer from a quick fired snap shot. Both teams constructed some decent plays but it was the Lightning, who was awarded a power play.
Resultantly, they successfully scored in the seventh minute through Vincent Lecavalier to double their advantage. The shots on goal kept on coming and it was the Lightning, who completed the dominating performance in the period with another goal in the 18th
minute scored by Nate Thompson.
In the end, it was the Lightning, who led 3-0 with both teams making eight shots on goal each.
The Penguins were on the attack at the start of the second period and created some superb plays. They had several scoring chances but could not find the back of the net early on.
Nevertheless, they kept on attacking and finally scored in the 10th minute through Craig Adams to keep their hopes alive.
The Lightning also got better with the passage of time and took some time but finally scored in the final minute during power play. The goal was scored through a flick shot by Martin St. Louis. The period ended with the Lightning leading 4-1, as they made
eight shots on goal while the Penguins made 14 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Penguins on top of the game offensively but the problem of not being able to score remained. However, the Lightning wrapped up the game with a goal in the 18th minute, which was scored by Mattias Ohlund from
a decent strike.
In the end, it was the Lightning, who levelled the seven games series 1-1 with a 5-1 win over the Penguins.
