Tampa Bay Lightning’s Simon Gagne all set to play for Lightning in the Conference Finals
Simon Gagne was out of the playoffs as he sustained an injury in Game 1 of the quarterfinal clash. Many predicted that there might be a long break in his career.
He fell awkwardly on his head after Washington Capitals’ Scott Hannan came up with a check from behind.
Although initially he was unconscious, he was able to get back onto his feet as he made his way onto the bench.
He had already faced quite a few problems due to concussions in the 2007-08 season and given the fact that it was Capitals, Lightning was in a spot of bother.
Anyhow, Gagne ended up missing only a few games and is all set and fit to rejoin Lightning that is prepared to take on Boston Bruins this Saturday as part of the East Finals.
"It was really hard to sit out, especially at this time of the season missing time", Gagne said. "That's the best time to play hockey. It is so fun to play right now. It was hard, but the good thing at the same time for myself was the team winning in four
games [against Washington]. It gives me a chance to get a good break and make sure everything is OK and be able to play the first game against Boston".
Gagne is relatively new in the team and was brought in from Philadelphia Flyers during the offseason.
He played 63 games during the course of the regular season during which he scored a total of 17 goals and piled up a total of 40 points.
Gagne was much better in the final stages of the season as he scored 7 goals and 18 points in the last 13 games.
Gagne has scored two goals and 7 points that were all in the first round against Pittsburgh Penguins.
Since he got injured after that, he was unable to increase on the statistics but he is expected to contribute a lot to the team.
There was a possibility that he could have played earlier but Lightning didn’t take any chances and allowed him to be declared fully fit as he is an important part of the team once he gets going.
Washington was thrashed by Lightning in a clean sweeping performance which has given Lighting considerable time to rest.
This time was perfectly used by Gagne to heel his injury as Lightning looks to bag another impressive performance.
Lightning is in a brilliant shape, better than ever and certainly has what it takes to go all the way and win the Stanley Cup.
