Tampa Bay Lightning’s captain Vincent Lecavalier finds the player’s replacement talks hilarious
Canadian international ice hockey player and the captain of Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL), Vincent Lecavalier got to know about the intention of NHL to find the replacement players and make them play in the league.
After the dispute between the NHL and NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA), the pre-season was cancelled and then first three weeks of the regular season were also cancelled. It is being said that there could be a lockout for one whole season like there was
in 2005-2006 season so NHL is taking different steps to find some other way.
There are speculations on internet and Twitter that replacement players could be used instead of players who are attached with NHLPA.
The Canadian forward, who was first overall pick in the 1998 NHL Draft could do nothing but laugh at such talks. According to him he became speechless after knowing the idea and thinks that NHL would not remain best league in the world if it would be without
its top 700 players. While talking at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon, he said,
"I don't even know what to say about that. Obviously, if (the NHL) wants the best league, taking 700 players and replacing them, it's probably not going to be the best league."
The idea is not being adopted yet or any official announcement has not been made by any NHL officials but Bill Watters, who was associated with Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL once as an Assistant General Manager thinks that Gary Bettman will do it eventually.
While talking in a Toronto radio show, Watters revealed that he believes in November Bettman will take this step to break the union of players.
There are many players in East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), American Hockey League (AHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and Western Hockey League (WHL) who would be up for grabs if it actually happens but one thing is for sure that level of hockey in the NHL
would not remain the same.
This would be first time that such thing would be introduced in sports. Same things also happened in National Football League (NFL) in 1987 and Major League Baseball (MLB) in 1995.
