Tampa Bay Lightning’s young star striker Sean Bergenheim is the upcoming scoring machine
Bergenheim is one of the young players in the National Hockey League (NHL) who grew up in Finland. Growing in that part of the world with Teemu Selanne as an idol, is how every Finnish ice hockey player like Bergenheim functions.
The story for Lightning’s star striker Sean Bergenheim is no different. However, along his road to the NHL he had some other players who got added to the list.
The players who are included in the list are Pavel Bure and Eric Lindros from whom he got answer after he mailed them some postcards as a fan.
"I was pumped about that", Bergenheim said.
Bergenheim is a son of an airline hostess and a computer business owner who he claims as being an ice hockey player.
"He was a goalie", Bergenheim said about his father. "I never actually saw him play, but I wanted to become a goalie, too, when I was younger. But I started figure skating when I was, I think, three years old, and then when I started hockey, I started as
a player and I just kind of stayed on that route”. He added, "I never got to be a goalie".
Lightning has been in superb form and this is the first time since 2004 that it has qualified for the Conference Finals.
In 2004, when Tampa Bay made it to the Conference Finals it went on to win the Stanley Cup title.
The Eastern Conference winners, Washington Capitals, thought that Lightning wasn’t strong enough before the series. However, Lightning won the series in four consecutive games to mark a franchise best performance in the postseason.
What is so interesting about these wins?
Bergenheim has been scoring consistently in the last seven games with two goals in the last game that Lightning won by 5-3.
Bergenheim has piled up five goals in the last five games and his play-making abilities are only getting better with the passage of time.
Though some say that it is a little late for him to perform as he was the first round pick in 2002, he has been able to develop into one of the best players now.
He has scored seven goals in the playoffs already which is truly amazing for someone who at one point scored just 14 goals in 80 games for New York Islanders.
However, the productivity of the Bolts has received significant help from the department of defence and centre, especially in the case of Bergenheim who has come up with goals due to the regular and accurate passes he has received from defenders and centres.
"We're working hard and those guys are setting me up for very nice plays", Bergenheim said. "You've got to have players and, obviously we have a lot of good players, but we have been clicking very well".
Bergenheim will definitely play an important role in Lightning’s surge for the Stanley Cup title and Tampa Bay certainly has the chance of lifting the Stanley Cup once again.
