Tampa Bay Rays’ B. J. Upton unsure of his trade – MLB News
The player whose future does not somehow seem very certain in the Tampa Bay Rays is B. J. Upton. There have lately been many rumours making the rounds pertaining to his trade. The rumours have some tangible credence in the moves that were made on Sunday,
July 24.
He was held out of the line-up for the reasons which were not explained initially. When the move was made, it led to the speculations that Upton was indeed going to be traded. Even though the team manager Joe Maddon vehemently denied any such move, his being
out somehow added to the uncertainty.
However, Upton came rather quickly to explain that he was indeed in need of rest.
"I just got the day off (Sunday). I think that's what it is. I hope that's what it is," Upton said. "It's become a comedy to me. So whatever. There's something new every day — San Fran, Cleveland, Washington, Philly. I mean, what is it? I don't know.”
Since there has not been much talk apart from debating this topic in the print and electronic media, Upton sounded somewhat frustrated by it when asked again, he said, "I'm to the point where I don't even care. If it happens, it happens."
Having played a total of 96 games this season so far, he has remained 353 at-bats and has scored 47 runs, executing 81 hits and having 15 home-runs to his credit. Upton has 53 RBIs with .229 BA and .310 OBP and .709 OPS.
As much as he loves to stay with his team the Tampa Bay Rays, Upton is unsure as to what fate holds for him and what future will offer in the coming weeks.
The reality is that Upton will pretty much like to stay in the team despite the attractive offers made to him largely because the Tampa Bay Rays have always given him the chance and honour the player of his stature.
Even though the team has to face the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in almost 18 games in the coming weeks, a look at the MLB ranking shows that the team is well adjusted and occupies a good position.
The Rays are now eighth in the MLB ranking with 55 wins to their credit, losing 48 of the games. From how they have performed so far, it apparently seems the Rays will maintain their record as they are only third in the AL standings following the Red Sox
and New York Yankees.
Only time will tell if Upton is traded and to which team he might be joining.
