Tampa Bay Rays’ David Price will be out of All-Star game due to turf toe injury – MLB News
Tampa Bay Rays’ starter, David Price will miss his spot in the All-Star roster because he suffered a turf toe problem and will not be able to pitch in the game. Price had a toe injury since the last Spring Training season but he was not fully recovered and
now it is assumed that he will be the part of the Rays’ roster in a series against the Boston Red Sox during next week.
Price said, “It's something that I want to be able to go out there (to Phoenix) and represent the AL, but I want to be able to throw Friday as well and give my toe enough time to heal up and to get to where I can be effective out there.”
According to some news, it was supposed that Price would be rested for the series against the New York Yankees also. However, Price has some other views as he had mixed emotions about this decision due to his left and right toe issue. Price pitched 112 throws
on Saturday and did not take any rest for the next game.
Price has a promising season so far as he pitched accurately and gave many good performances to the Rays. In his MLB career statistics through June 1, 2011, he had a Win-Loss record of 37-20 with an ERA of 3.37 and struck-out 424 batters with his tricky
pitches. It was the disappointing moment for Price when Derek Jeter hit a solo home-run off Price and achieved a mile-stone of 3000 hits on July 9, 2011. Price will go down in history for that hit, as he was on the receiving side of it.
The Rays’ manager, Joe Maddon commented that some other players will also not be part of All-Star roster like the Yankees’ short-stop, Derek Jeter and closer Mariano Rivera due to their spots in the future series.
It is possible that the Rays’ starter, James Shields was also withdrawn from the active American League roster due to his participation in the festivities. Matt Joyce is still the confirmed player who will play for the All-Stars. The game between American
League All-Stars and National League All-Stars will be held on Tuesday, July 12.
Price commented on his absence from the All-Star game and said, “This is something I've had so I've kind of learned to deal with it, but being able to take that day off and not have to fire it up during the All-Star break is pretty big.”
The Rays had filled their three spots by Alex Cobb, Jeff Niemann and Jeremy Hellickson for the game likely to be played on Tuesday.
