Tampa Bay Rays’ Jim Hickey reveals David Price’s disappointment from last post-season – MLB News
David Price took the opportunity to talk to the press on Sunday, October 2 from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. The Tampa Bay Rays’ pitcher revealed that he was gearing up for his role in Game 3 of the American League Division Series and he was looking
to get his focus on the goal. Pitching Coach Jim Hickey was also around for comments and he revealed the disappointment Price faced last post-season.
The Rays are tied, 1-all with the Texas Rangers in the post-season division series and they are looking to take the lead at Tropicana Field. The teams had met before in the post-season and it was in 2010 the clubs faced off in the Division Series at the
same venue. David Price pitched in two games but lost each one, conceding eight runs in just over 12 innings.
The pitcher was fairly disappointed and the Rangers capitalised on the situation by eventually going to the World Series. Price fell weak behind the Rangers’ Cliff Lee and it was only imaginable how hard the ace took the defeats.
"It is tough to forget about it," Price said.
Rays’ pitching coach shared his hurler’s disappointing reaction to the defeats.
"I remember very clearly that he was extremely bitter and he felt like he let everybody down," Hickey said. "Of course, that's not the case, but that's how he sees his role. He sees his role as one of the leaders here and he is one of the leaders here along
with James Shields.”
James Shields lost his first post-season game on Saturday, October 1 against the Rangers and Price will be hoping he can do better than his team-mate. With no Cliff Lee in the pitching rotation, the Rangers will be sending in Colby Lewis for the big game.
The Rays will be looking for an improved performance in Game 3 as they will be playing at home. Rangers are going to fight hard throughout the game and try to take a lead in the series. It will be interesting to see which of these teams comes out on top.
