The Tampa Bay Rays beat Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 1 at Rogers’ Centre in Toronto.
Rays’ played better than the Jays and won in style. They played aggressive and did not let the Jays dominate them throughout the match-up.
B.J. Upton remained confident on his four at-bats as he tremendously earned a great victory for the Rays.
He scored one run and smashed two hits on his consistent .417 slugging percentage.
"I knew I had a pretty good line, I was hoping it wasn't too high for him, Luckily it wasn't. He got up a little bit. The biggest thing is he was able to block the plate,” Upton said.
Blue Jays' manager John Farrell said, “B.J. Upton has probably got one of the strongest throwing arms in this league, It can be a little erratic at times. We forced him to throw a strike and he did."
Shortstop Ben Zobrist also played well for the Rays and did not give any advantage to opposing pitchers. He scored one run and smashed one hit along with an RBI on his consistent slugging percentage at .466.
Right fielder Matt Joyce added one run and smashed two hits but his three RBIs certainly provided right momentum to the Rays as they later edged past the Blue Jays.
Not only batters, but the Rays’ pitchers also played well and earned a great victory.
"They did it to us last night, we did it to them today, It feels much better when you're on this side of things," Rays' manager Joe Maddon said.
Starter Jeff Niemann pitched 3.1 innings and received only one hit. He struck-out four and maintained his 3.08 ERA.
J.P. Howell pitched 0.1 innings and received two runs and two hits. He received one homer but still maintained his slugging percentage at 2.89.
Relief pitcher Joel Peralta also did well on the mound as he pitched 0.1 innings and allowed only two runs and received three hits. He struck-out one while his ERA also remained consistent at 3.76.
