Tampa Bay Rays beaten by Boston Red Sox 5-7 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays looked completely out of sorts as they crashed to a 5-7 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on Tuesday, September 18 in second game of their four match series.
Starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson gave up five hits and three runs in just four innings while striking-out seven batters. Relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth grabbed his first win of the season.
Ben Zobrist singled to centre in the third inning to put his side on the board. Evan Longoria also made the most of scoring opportunities to extend Rays’ lead to 3-0. The Red Sox fought back strongly, scoring runs at regular intervals to claim a memorable
win.
"I don't have anything brilliant to say," manager Joe Maddon said Tuesday after the Boston Red Sox rallied for a 7-5 victory. "We're just not playing well and we've got to figure it out relatively quick -- not relatively quick, very quickly."
"We're playing uptight, we're Jonesing out there a little bit. I don't understand why because I really believe we've maintained the clubhouse in the same fashion that we normally do," Maddon added. "This time of the year is the time I thought we really enjoy
the most, and for whatever reason it's just not thriving or happening right now."
Red Sox dominated their opponents in almost all aspects of the game. The pitching rotation in particular used fastballs and curveballs to great effect to help the Red Sox establish complete control over the contest.
Credit should be given to Bobby Valentine and company for showing great determination to rise from the ashes at these closing stages of the game. It will be interesting to see if Valentine and his men can continue their impressive winning streak to secure
a rare series sweep at Tropicana Field.
Rays, on the other hand, will be disgusted with their effort in a must win American League East Division contest. It was their fourth straight loss and it seems their playoff hopes have taken a big hit after the Red Sox rallied for a superb victory. Tampa
Bay will be looking to recover from their current losing streak and put in a good performance during this crucial stage of the regular season.
