Tampa Bay Rays beaten by Toronto Blue Jays 3-4 – MLB News
Tampa Bay Rays were beaten by the Toronto Blue Jays 3-4 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, May 22 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win, the Blue Jays secured a deserving series victory against their American League East Division rivals. Blue Jays started the series on a very confident note, securing a comfortable 7-5 win in the opener. Rays fought back brilliantly in Game
2 to keep the series alive. However, despite having the momentum working in their favour, the Twins failed to cross the winning line on Wednesday.
Rays’ Manager Joe Maddon will be very disappointed with the outcome of the series. With little bit more luck on their side, the Rays could have easily recorded another important road series victory but that did not turn out to be the case.
Starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson produced an outstanding performance as he allowed just four hits and two runs in eight solid innings. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he created all sorts of problems for the Blue Jays batting lineup. Relief
pitcher Cesar Ramos failed to live up to the expectations as he gave up the tie breaking single in the tenth inning.
"He's not just a slugger; he's a complete hitter," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "He can do a lot of things with that bat."
"I get a little more excited for those," said Blue Jays’ hitter Jose Bautista said. "It was a huge moment and I'm just glad I was able to get the ball through that hole and drive in the winning run."
"It was pretty important to us," Bautista said. "It's a division game against a team that we haven't won a series against in a long time."
Ryan Roberts reached on infield single to second inning to put Rays on the board. Ben Zobrist singled to shallow left in the third and first baseman James Loney singled to centre in the ninth but the night belonged to the Blue Jays who came back from behind
to clinch a thriller.
