Tampa Bay Rays continue their impressive form to floor Los Angeles Angels 4-3 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays continued their impressive run as they beat Los Angeles Angels 4-3 at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida in the finale of a three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Ben Zobrist made the most of available opportunities as he doubled to let Desmond Jennings score in the first inning. Matt Joyce drove in the crucial run in the sixth to reduce Angels’ lead to 3-2. However, the star of the show was Brandon Allen who homered into the right field to help the Rays come back from behind to seal victory.
"Success like this isn't going to come all the time," Allen said. "Baseball is a lot of luck. I was just there hitting and stayed within myself."
"To his credit, he has not played in a while," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "This guy has not had many swings over the last couple weeks, and that speaks a lot to his makeup that we've heard about."
Allen had a rough time on the plate last season; managing just .200 with six home runs and 18 RBI’s in 52 appearances. He will be looking to bring more consistency into his game this year.
Joe Maddon and company have looked in terrific form since the start of their series with the Angels. Dominating their rivals in almost all aspects of the game, the Rays secured a convincing 5-0 win in the opening game.
Angels put up a good fight in the second but the Rays proved too strong for them to take a decisive 2-0 lead in the series. Another thrilling and competitive contest between the two sides was witnessed on Thursday evening.
Rising to the occasion, the Rays outplayed their opponents in finer details of the game to complete their second series sweep of the season.
With their win over the Angels, the Rays also improved their win-loss record to 12-7 and they are incredibly 8-1 at home. If Tampa Bay can continue their excellent form for a longer period of time, they will surely put themselves in a great position to make it to the World Series finals.
