Tampa Bay Rays defeat Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays defeated Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, May 15 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Toronto scored first, thanks to Jose Bautista who singled to centre in the third inning. Edwin Encarnacion homered to left centre in the same inning to give the Blue Jays a decent 3-0 lead. For Tampa Bay, Sean Rodriguez homered in the seventh to reduce the deficit to 2-3 and B.J. Upton drove in the winning run.
"That was not my intention at all," Brett Lawrie said after hitting the umpire. "I've never, ever done anything to go at an umpire before in my life, and I didn't mean to tonight. I apologize for that."
"It's just my passion for the game," he said. "I wanted to help my teammates out as best I could. That's the pride I have in this game."
"Upon seeing that he was ejected, he took several steps toward me and fired his helmet. It hit me in the right hip," umpire Bill Miller said in an interview.
The Rays, once again, showed great temperament, mental strength and fighting abilities in a game that was played on an extremely spirited note. Both teams adopted an aggressive approach but it was Tampa Bay who eventually came out on top to win the series 2-0.
Tamp Bay had lost to Baltimore Orioles in their previous three game series and credit must be given to them for the way they have bounced back. It will be interesting to see if Joe Maddon and his men can put up another masterful performance in their next series against Boston Red Sox.
Blue Jays, on the other hand, will be disappointed with the outcome of the game. They were hammered 7-1 in the opening and the fans expected them to make a strong come back in the finale but that did not turn out to be the case. It will not be wrong to say that with little bit more luck on their side; the Blue Jays could have levelled series 1-1.
