Tampa Bay Rays defeat the Chicago White Sox 4-1 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays’ starter Wade Davis had a dominant pitching performance as he gave just one run on six hits which resulted in the Rays’ 4-1 win against the Chicago White Sox at the Tropicana Field in Florida on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Davis said, “I was rushing a little bit in the first inning. I wasn't really hitting my spots. Had to slow everything down a little bit.”
The Rays continued their winning streak after a poor start in the current season. They improved their record after winning eight games out of nine. Davis struck-out two batters in seven inning pitches. John Jaso also played a crucial role in the win by hitting
a two-run homer off Phil Humber in the second inning and led off the team with 2-0.
The Rays’ Manager Joe Maddon was satisfied with the team’s effort. He said, “The fact that we're back to that level is great, but our goal is well above .500. That's how you get back to this point, grinding it out everyday. It speaks to the attitude of the
group. You get to solvency and now you've just got to win series.”
Casey Kotchman shined to extend the lead 3-0 by hitting an RBI double in the fourth inning. During the fifth inning, the Rays’ right-fielder Matt Joyce supported Davis with a diving catch on Juan Pierre’s two run drive towards the front wall. Joyce also
took a double in the fifth inning to lead the Rays 4-0.
On the other side, the White Sox lost their seventh consecutive game of the season. The White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen said, “We had better at-bats. That's all you can do. Go and fight for your at-bats, and see what happens. It's not easy when the guys
go out and pitch and they don't have run support. Humber continues to throw the ball well.”
The White Sox starter Humber did not do well, as he allowed four runs on six hits, including four earned runs and just three strike-outs in five innings. Gordon Beckman caught up after hitting two runs on 25 slides and ended the inning with a pop fly. Carlos
Quentin was the only man for the White Sox to hit a home run. He was shifted to the third spot in the roster.
The White Sox had a bad time as they lost three games out of four against the disciplined rivals, the Rays. Adam Dunn made one run on three hits with a double. He was left out of the White Sox roster due to an appendectomy at the start of the current Major
League Baseball season. Guillen made some amendments in the line-up by moving Dunn to the fifth spot. A.J. Pierzynski did not have a run on three hits, which was quite remarkable.
