Tampa Bay Rays edge Los Angeles Angels 3-2 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays edged Los Angeles Angels 3-2 at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on Wednesday, April 25 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Rays will be very pleased with the way they have bounced back in the last couple of weeks. After making a very bright start to their 2012 season campaign, Joe Maddon and company experienced a huge dip in their form, which damaged their win-loss record
quite significantly.
However, Tampa Bay seems to have raised their game to a higher level in their two encounters against the Angels. They are now on a four match winning streak with six wins in their last seven games. With their win over Los Angeles, the Rays improved their
win-loss record to 11-7. It will be interesting to see if they can take their brilliant form into the finale to complete a deserving series sweep.
For the Rays, Ben Zobrist displayed some great batting skills as he scored the first run for his team. Starting pitcher, Jeremy Hellickson was a bit untidy to start with but came back strongly to toss six solid innings. He allowed just one run on five hits.
"I definitely needed that one," Zobrist said. "It's the start of the season. April has not always been the greatest month for me. Hopefully I'll get it going a little bit. The good thing is we've been winning. When you're winning games, things are going
well. You just keep working hard."
Rays have always proved to be tough opponents at their home and their 7-1 home record suggests that the comfort level they are feeling right now in front of their home crowd.
Angels, on the other hand, have no one to blame except for themselves. They missed a number of scoring opportunities and their approach was just not aggressive enough. After being hammered in the opener 0-5, the Angels were hoping to restore some of the
lost pride on Wednesday evening but unfortunately for them, that did not turn out to be the case.
