Tampa Bay Rays enthusiastic by the approach of Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon – MLB News
During a press conference on February 1, 2011 the Tampa Bay Rays has announced their two newest players, Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon into their team.
The Rays are very excited by the recent acquisition of these two top players into the team. Both players have tremendous records and are extremely talented. They will bring about some exciting offensive play for the team as Spring Training is creeping up.
The Rays will be looking for great things from both Ramirez and Damon. The team is desperate for a successful regular season with the possibility to play in the playoffs.
Both Ramirez and Damon are basically replacing Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena, who recently left the team. It is reported that Damon will get $5.25 million as Ramirez will be getting paid $2 million.
There was much amusement between both of the players in the conference, which stated their excitation of joining the Rays.
Upon joining the Rays, Damon said, "This is my dream team. My family and friends are always out there supporting me. I'll see much more of them. I really love this opportunity to come back home and hopefully help this team win a championship."
Damon was the designated hitter for the Detroit Tigers in 2010. He managed to play 145 games with an average of .271, eight home-runs, 51 RBIs and 81 runs.
Ramirez commented after signing with Rays and said, “I'm here because I love the game, I love to compete. It doesn't matter how much you make. All you want is a chance to prove to people that you still could do it. I thank God. I try to enjoy myself. And
that's it.”
Last year, Ramirez had eight home-runs, 40 RBIs and a .311 hitting average for the Chicago White Sox. Both players will be looking to make a positive impact for their new team, Tampa Bay Rays. The team is excited by the addition of such talented players
and is looking to focus on the upcoming Spring Training session before the 2011 regular season begins.
