Tampa Bay Rays fall down to fourth spot, three shy of Wild-Card race – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays could not keep their winning impetus going against the strong New York Yankees and went to Number four in the League and are three games shy of the Wild-Card race.
After losing to New York, Tampa Bay Rays have dropped to the fourth spot behind the Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers.
The American League is having a great contest while the playoffs are just around the corner. New York Yankees is leading the League with 93 wins and are just one win away from cementing a place in the playoff competition. Yankees batting stumbled in a few
of the past games but their ability to retaliate in difficult situations will be the biggest challenge for the opposition.
AL Central leaders Detroit Tigers are the second most expected team to follow the Yankees in the playoff journey. Having a brilliant batting and pitching combination, Tigers have made the most prominent comeback in the season. In the month of September,
Tigers have lost only four outings and also have posted a record of 12 consecutive wins to heighten themselves to 89 triumphs. Although, Tigers dropped in a humiliating manner against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, their bounce back ability will count
in the last crucial games of the 2011 regular season.
Texas Rangers has made a positive jump with two consecutive wins over the Seattle Mariners to close down their last series. Rangers have 88 wins and share the third position with the Boston Red Sox. However, looking at their current devotion and performance,
one can easily see them into the playoffs. Rangers’ batters including Mike Napoli, Ian Kinsler, Adrian Beltre, Josh Hamilton, Michael Young and David Murphy are being considered the real power and can easily push the club into the post-season.
Red Sox are struggling to stabilise their bullpen. They have lost two of their last three outings even against the weak Baltimore Orioles. A club, who was on the top before this month, has made only five wins in twenty outings of September. Being in a critical
situation, Red Sox will now have to make some serious comebacks in the coming outings, otherwise Tampa Bay Rays have plenty of chances to topple them.
Although Rays received a severe 0-5 loss against the Yankees, their effort in this month depicts their ability to topple the Red Sox. They might not be able to win many games against the Yankees but the three-game competition against the Toronto Blue Jays
will be a chance to enter the playoffs but only if the Red Sox lose each of their remaining outings. Rays have to face the Yankees in six of their last nine outings.
